BioLAND™ PET - Tech Sheet

BioLAND™ PET is biodegradable through the use of proprietary compounds as additives to commercial virgin or recycled PET.

BioLAND™ PET is a truly biodegradable plastic, meaning it will degrade in a landfill or even as land or marine litter. BioLAND™ PET is tested for bio-degradability using a modified ASTM D 5210 for municipal waste.

BioLAND™ PET is wholly recyclable as post-industrial flake and we recommend it be kept separate from other PET so it can be returned for credit and re-extrusion. Additionally, BioLAND™ PET can be reused multiple times with no loss of properties and repeated use does not diminish the biodegradability of this unique product.

BioLAND™ PET is completely non-toxic and should not be considered a contaminant if introduced into commercial post-consumer or post-industrial recycling streams.

BioLAND™ PET will fully degrade, yet is made from materials and utilizing processes that render it fully compliant to FDA 21 CFR 175.300, 177.1200, 177.1350 and other sections of the FDA regulations regarding the use of plastics in food packaging. BioLAND™ PET is not compliant with kosher guidelines at present.

BioLAND™ PET has nearly unlimited shelf stability, unlike other biodegradable plastics that have a finite shelf life.

BioLAND™ PET degrades when the bioactive compounds it contains are activated in the presence of the naturally occurring organisms found in most disposal environments. The proprietary compounds in BioLAND™ PET allow these natural organisms to colonize in and metabolize the molecular structure of the plastic as food. The byproduct of this action is a dark, inert, humus-like biomass that is shapeless and harmless to the environment.

BioLAND™ PET will form and cut just like regular PET and will not require re-tooling or mold modification when used with existing PET tooling.

BioLAND™ PET will become a humus-like biomass in the environment of any landfill system within 1 to 5 years, the same span of time it would take a wool sock or a paper milk carton to degrade under the same conditions.

BioLAND™ PET is available in natural clear or in a custom color. Colorants and other PET compatible additives do not affect the biodegradability of Bio-PET®.
